The Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) initiated this audit to examine the FBI's seaport security efforts. We reviewed the FBI's roles and responsibilities for preventing and responding to terrorist attacks in the maritime domain, and the extent and effectiveness of the FBI's interagency coordination and cooperation. To accomplish these overall objectives, we examined the FBI's: (1) initiatives to prevent maritime terrorism, including coordination with the Coast Guard and other agencies; (2) capability to respond to maritime incidents; and (3) efforts to assess the maritime terrorism threat.
