The report includes sixty-two papers summarizing international progress in dealing with the transportation problems of the elderly and handicapped. These include overviews of major developments in the field in countries throughout the world, descriptions of how airlines deal with the mobility problems of special travelers, discussions of microcomputer applications to special transport services, and a variety of state-of-the-art and research papers. These latter write-ups focus on the problems of elderly pedestrians and drivers, planning and services for special users, hardware and technological improvements for the subject group, the operation of specialized transit systems, and a variety of implementation issues. The report covers a particularly broad range of topics and should be of interest to those involved in policy formulation, planning, implementation, or operation of transportation for elderly or handicapped people.
