A part of a BMFT-research on possibilities of energy saving are presented. Technologies of energy saving in transportation are reported. Comparative analyses deal with the problems of street transport, rail transport, air transport, and inland navigation in the FRG. The energy-related transport performance of the above transport vehicles is reported. Efficient energy savings can be achieved especially if vehicles with low specific energy consumption are given preference, i.e., the individual traffic must increasingly be replaced by mass transportation vehicles.
