The report examines past truck related research to determine the applicability of current geometric design policies to special truck lane facilities. Recommendations are made to help fill the voids in existing design policy. The policies addressed include vehicle characteristics, sight distance, horizontal and vertical alignment, and cross section elements. The report describes specific design elements, discusses their appropriateness to special truck lane facilities, and recommends alternative design criteria where past research warrants possible changes.
