This citation summarizes a one-page announcement of technology available for utilization. Erosion-resistant coatings can be of critical importance in increasing the useful life of helicopter rotor blades. The U.S. Army Aviation Research and Development Command sponsored an investigation in which helicopter rotor blades were coated with an intermetallic boride for improved erosion resistance. Test specimens of boride-coated titanuim and SAE 430 stainless steel were supplied to three helicopter manufacturers for evaluation. The boride-coated titanuim was found to be superior to the boride-coated SAE 430 stainless steel. ...FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Detailed information about the technology described may be obtained by ordering the NTIS report, order number: AD-A088440, price code: PC A09 or contact Project officer George Harris, (617) 923-3258.
