The report presents an examination of air transportation trends, both nationally and locally. A three-county study area includes Shelby, DeSoto, and Crittenden. An inventory of local based aircraft was projected to 1990 and compared with FAA fleet forecasts. An analysis of operations showed a mounting inability of the present airport system to accommodate future operations. Projections of enplaned passengers indicate immediate terminal expansion is required at Memphis Metropolitan Airport. Increasing congestion will require general aviation growth to be accommodated at several congestion reliever airports. General aviation operations projections were developed and compared with capacity deficiency studies by the FAA. An airport system adequate to meet projected demands is recommended. (Author)
