Three dummies representing newborn infants were evaluated for use in testing infant automotive safety restraints. Two existing dummies were procured and one was developed for the purpose of the evaluation. The dimensions of each dummy were compared to the anthropometric and anthromporphic characteristics of an approximately fiftieth percentile newborn infant. Repeated crash simulations on a HYGE sled were performed to study each dummy's response in rearward facing and car bed type safety restraints.
