For fixed wing aircraft, system identification methods to determine stability and control derivatives from flight test data are used with confidence. The application of the same techniques to rotorcraft is not so far advanced mainly because of the helicopter aeromechanical complexity. Only a few specialists have concentrated on this field and the application in industry is still sporadic. To coordinate these activities within the AGARD nations, a working group was constituted to focus on the applicational aspects of the various individual approaches and to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the different methods. The findings are presented of the Working Group including a documentation of the data bases, the applied identification methodologies, and major application areas. For each of the three helicopters, comparisons of the obtained results are discussed in the format of case studies, covering data quality evaluations, identification, and the verification of the obtained models.
