The present technical note reports on an investigation into the use of the tracks produced by aircraft tracking filters based on aircraft derived data, in calculating a reliable wind speed vector. The results, obtained in various flight sections, show that the error in the wind angle calculated is dependant on the real value of the wind speed, but are otherwise inconclusive.
