A determination was made of the currently available aids to navigation applicable in the short distance civil maritime environment, and the expected state of the art in the next 10 years. The operational characteristics and established costs for the various navigational aids are described. A methodology for determining the effectiveness of navigational aids systems and elements thereof was developed. (Author)
