Separation and reattachment of boundary-layer flows have been under extensive investigation in recent years. This phenomenon is significant on high-speed aircraft in which the performance is degraded by separated flows and various components damaged due to intense heating at reattachment. The rearward-facing step problem is a characteristic example of separated flow. It is intended to investigate this problem at hypersonic speeds.
