Using a three-dimensional finite element analysis and potential flow theory, the fluid flow fields around a tanker after a sway or yaw disturbance are illustrated. The tanker is positioned either on the centreline or near a wall in a canal of uniform rectangular cross-section and the flows existing in two water depth conditions are compared.
