After a general and short survey concerning the selection of materials to be used for seawaterpipingsystems on board ship with respect to the specific environmental conditions and the various corrosion aspects the first results of a thorough study of the corrosion behaviour of Cunifer-10 alloys are described.
The influence of the heattreatment on the corrosion behaviour of the alloy and the influence of the operating conditions on the protective layer are discussed.
Finally proposals are made for future work.
