This paper describes briefly the types of non-metallic materials used in warships; it gives a summary of the problems that face a warship designer when choosing materials and describes the latest trends. Apart from boats and small craft, non-metallic materials are mainly used for “fittings”, and items incidental to the hull construction. A section has been devoted to “paints”.
