This paper provides an overview of the issues associated with driver-vehicle performance measurement in a real-time, interactive simulated environment. A functional description of vehicle simulators is provided. Experimentation using vehicle simulators is considered in relation to the point in the closed-loop system where measurements may be taken (i.e. driver, interface, vehicle, and environment).
