This paper sets out an idealised model for the integration of human factors in major railway projects. It discusses the role of the human factors specialist and how this multifaceted discipline should be integrated into complex programmes to bring maximum benefit. The author draws on his experience of providing human factors consultancy services on many railway projects in the UK and overseas, including the Jubilee Line extension project. (4 pages)
