A mark-relay strategy for explicit congestion notification (ECN) that can significantly reduce the transfer delay of congestion information from a congested router to its source host in a multiple-hop network environment is presented. Through simulations, the proposed mark-relay strategy produced a better performance than the existing mark-tail and mark-front strategies in terms of throughput and fairness between Transport Control Protocol (TCP) flows.
