World energy consumption is increasing and adjustable speed drives will account for a large portion of all motor drives. Insulated gate bipolar transistors and similar fast switching PWM drives will continue to be the preferred choice. While these drives are reliable and offer excellent control response, there are some drawbacks. An overview of some problems with compatibility between drives, motor cables and motors is given with some suggested remedies.
