Research shows traffic congestion often occurs as a result of people selecting a less-than-optimal mode of travel and route for their journey. The PROMISE project hopes to reduce this problem by making reliable personalised travel and traffic information, that is position-dependent, available to travellers. Travellers will be able to access the PROMISE services via a number of cellular-based terminals that incorporate a World Wide Web (WWW) browser, including a portable communicator and an in-car device. The services to be offered include trip planning, on-trip guidance, traffic and public transport information, yellow pages, points of interest and weather information. (4 pages)
