A TRIO (triple RISC image operator) has been designed to speed up a range of image processing operations. The authors have followed the RISC idea in designing this processor owing to its simplicity and effectiveness. The TRIO has 16 image processing instructions in addition to 60 ordinary instructions. The processor has been simulated and its performance compared with modern CISC/RISC microprocessors.
