This paper compares and contrasts two of the four UK national demonstrators of Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC). Reading and Stratford-upon-Avon have widely differing locations and needs, but both have embraced the UTMC philosophy to provide flexible and effective advanced tools to address their transportation objectives and their traffic management needs. The paper makes use of the acronyms for a number of related systems and applications. These are listed and explained in the Appendix for ease of reference.
