The traction system of an electric vehicle must be highly energy efficient; to obtain an acceptable operating range from the limited energy stored in the battery. In the search for an energy optimised design, simulation plays an essential role in determining the energy requirements of a particular vehicle, in the estimation of the power-train loss and performance, and in assessing the implications of a particular choice of component or control method. In this paper, a simulation method for the power electronic convertors used in electric vehicles is described. (3 pages)
