The effects of convoy driving, an automated highway system (AHS) strategy, have been investigated using a fuzzy logic based simulation model called FLOWSIM. The specific convoy driving concept studied relies on effective vehicle to vehicle communication rather than roadside infrastructure. This paper reports the effects of convoy driving on motorway flow stability and capacity.
