The paper presents the results of investigative studies involving the performance of a full nonlinear vehicle suspension system configured in a low bandwidth active suspension form. By using a multi-modal control technique the benefits of using an online adaptive scheme are explored and compared to a fixed multi-modal scheme. The vehicle is subjected to differing load conditions and temperatures and is simulated whilst undergoing various manoeuvres and road input conditions. Results in this paper suggest that potential improvement using an adaptive approach can be achieved, particularly in terms of a reduction in total fluid flow.
