The paper draws upon recent study work and presentations to the international aerospace community regarding the development trends in aircraft electrical systems on civil transport aircraft. A brief review of the historic trends in aircraft electrical power is given and new options for electrical power generation described. The nature of aircraft power generation and load management is discussed and the increasing integration of electrical and other major aircraft systems explained. The need to review aircraft level architectures leading to the all-electric engine is described. (6 pages)
