GF-1 is a new generation small satellite in China, designed to realize high resolution and wide swath optical remote sensing mission. The paper firstly introduces the mission characteristics of GF-1, shows on orbit side-slither calibration image which is realized by yaw 90°, and two years running results of GF-1. It also introduces the typical applications in environment, agriculture, land resources, and emergency disasters. Such as the monitoring of water bloom. Facing the quantity data and different application requirement, GF-1 takes effective methods to prolong image time, adjust focus to improve image quality and adjust orbit altitude to amend nadir track drift. All efforts are to achieve well applications for users. Finally, the follow-up satellites are introduced.
