It is well known that optically gain-clamped erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (GC-EDFAs) are suitable for multiwavelength networks. A great deal of experimental works on GC-EDFAs but relatively few theoretical works have been reported. However, in order to fully understand the static and dynamic behavior of GCEDFAs in complex multiwavelength networks it is essential to have an analytically solvable dynamic model for both numerical and analytical investigation. In the paper, we present a simple dynamic GC-EDFA model for the first time and show its validity experimentally. The model is expected to be very useful to evaluate the performance of large scale networks employing a number of GC-EDFAs.
