Sector-less air traffic management (ATM) is a concept which restructures the airspace in order to make better use of the human air traffic controller as a resource. Currently, a new team concepts based on self-organization is developed. To analyze the teams’ information needs for successful collaboration we use a distributed simulation representing a novel teamwork concept for sectorless ATM. We conducted an exploratory study with qualitative analysis of communication data. Based on content analysis, we derive relevant topics for distributed team collaboration in the ATM domain and identify communication triggers. The results will be used to further develop the concept of self-organization for sectorless ATM, the workplace and assistance systems.
