This paper deals with the line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor for the aircraft systems. Permanent magnet machine with a short-circuited winding on the rotor is proposed for the use as a fuel pump of an aircraft. Proposed machine is calculated by FEM methods taking into account the requirements of the aerospace industry and compared with conventionally used machines. Particular attention was paid to the optimization of the short-circuited winding of the rotor and of the height of permanent magnets. The main goal was to achieve the maximum resultant torque during the starting. The prototype of a line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor is created and tested as part of an aviation fuel pump. It is shown that developed prototype has 2 times lower energy consumption, a lower mass (by 10%) and a higher overload capacity in comparison with traditional machine.
