The paper presents a high performance synchronous reluctance machine designed for torque ripple sensitive applications. High performance applications have stringent requirements for torque density, torque ripple, and noise and vibration to satisfy the system level requirements. A 2D finite element tool along with an optimization routine has been used to develop the design methodology. Global response surface method has been utilized to carry out this multi-objective optimization. A quick and easy to use motor parameter based tool along with FE analysis is used to analyze the performance of the machine. Experimental results are provided to verify the design.
