We report a technique for the generation of the cylindrical symmetry Laguerre-Gaussian fields in a fiber-coupled diode end-pumped solid-state laser. The key novelty is to produce a doughnut-shaped pump-profile by defocusing a standard fiber-coupled diode. We demonstrate the dependence of the transverse pattern formation on the cavity quality factor (Q-factor) in a large-Fresnel-number microchip laser excited by a doughnut pump profile.
