We have transmitted an unchirped 3-ps pulse over an 80-km strongly dispersion-managed link, whose dispersion map is designed so that the eigen-soliton solution is unchirped at the input end of each dispersion-managed period. For an improper dispersion map, however, the pulse expands itself instead of reforming into the soliton solution.
