Due to the recent commercialization of erbium doped fiber amplifiers, polarization additive pulse mode-locked (APM) Er-doped fiber lasers are intensively studied as candidates for inexpensive and compact short pulse sources. In most cases, the timing jitter is reported to be greater than several picoseconds. In this paper, we measure the noise characteristics of a polarization APM erbium doped fiber ring laser previously reported. We found its timing jitter to be as low as 144 fsec rms.
