Recently, a laser amplifier model was used to describe some novel features in the optical spectra of a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) under strong optical injection. Here, we show that the laser cavity plays a profound role in the enhancement of the modulation bandwidth and the modification of resonance characteristics. We consider a single-mode semiconductor laser biased near threshold and subject to an external optical field which injection locks the output.
