Fast switching is demonstrated on a two dimensional Al/sub 0.3/Ga/sub 0.7/As photonic crystal slab around 1.5 /spl mu/m. An AlO/sub x/ slab ensures efficient heat sink. A 200% change in the reflectivity is obtained with a recovery time of 8 ps.
