Optical-path cross-connect systems (OXCs) are systems that are able to construct one integrated optical network by connecting plural point-to-point WDM systems, and are able to provide optical path with the granularity of a wavelength between two edge OXCs for transporting client signals transparently. The system includes wavelength tunable OTN interfaces with high output power and high sensitivity, and fast optical 1+1 protection. The switch architecture utilizing SiO/sub 2/ PLC-based switch fabric allows complete modular growth capability in terms of both fiber ports and optical paths. Transparent transport of OC-192 client signal through OTU2 over the OXC network is verified.
