Static VAR Compensator (SVC) is a shunt connected static Volt-Ampere Reactive (VAR) device which has a set of electrical devices for providing fast-acting reactive power compensation on high voltage transmission networks. The Multilevel Converter (MLC) technology has emerged as it has advantages of high flexibility to increase levels in output, reduced harmonic content at high level compared to conventional voltage source converters and they have less switching losses. In this paper, the SVC and MLC using IGBTs in designed using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The integration of designed MLC is introduced with SVC in place of Thyristor control and the Total Harmonic Distortion is analyzed. MLC for SVC application employ half-bridge power modules to synthesize the required voltage waveforms.
