Approximate expressions are developed for the receiver operating characteristics (ROCs) of two binary detectors, one based on random-vector observations, the other seeking continuous-time Gaussian signals in white Gaussian noise. The approach used is to extend Van Trees's good-performance-regime results (P/sub F//spl les/0.5, P/sub D//spl ges/0.5) to a much larger ROC range. The accuracy of these approximations is illustrated via an example from the stationary-processes-long-observation-time (SPLOT) regime.
