The Federal Aviation Administration is fielding several tools to support departure management for flights. A number of them, such as the Reroute Monitor, the Departure Viewer, the PreDeparture ReRoute tool and the Enroute Departure Clearance tool, are in widespread use. Others, such as an implementation of the Collaborative Decision Making Program’s airport surface management concept, are currently being implemented within the Tower Flight Data Management program. The collective availability of these tools offers an important opportunity to integrate their use in order to better support Traffic Managers working at air traffic control facilities when managing departures, and to improve coordination with Dispatchers at airline Operations Centers. Such integration offers an opportunity to increase predictability and support electronic coordination between FAA Traffic Managers and airline Dispatchers.
