Two commercial vehicle applications of intelligent vehicle/highway system (IVHS) technologies in Ontario are discussed. The IVHS technologies considered include automatic vehicle identification, smart transponder, weigh-in-motion, and electronic toll collection. The systems will provide travel time savings, electronic paperless processing, vehicle location, and two-way communications for the trucking industry. These applications will enhance the efficiency of both the trucking industry and the regulating transportation agencies.
