To reduce delivery costs, a route planning strategy for express delivery vehicles is proposed. Firstly, a mathematical model to calculate delivery time cost to represent the delivery cost is established. Secondly, a route scheme based on the serial numbers of package distribution sites is proposed, which can obtain the key vehicle information for calculating the delivery time cost including the required number of vehicles, the arrival and departure time, vehicle loads, and package volume. Thirdly, the route scheme is optimized by using crow search algorithm (CSA), and a crow location updatig method is proposed to adjust to the delivery route decoding strategy. The simulation results demonstrate the proposed route planning strategy with CSA can effectively reduce delivery time costs and outperforms those strategies with simulated annealing algorithm, differential evolution algorithm and genetic algorithm in terms of convergence accuracy and speed.
