Connecting the universal inverter driver (or variable-frequency inverter) with Energy Feedback Device (EFD) is an economical method to realize the four-quadrant operation of induction motor. However, the fixed switching frequency PWM adopted for the sinusoidal current control may lead to large circulating current. In this paper, the generation mechanism and the potential path of the circulating current are analyzed. Dual carried wave harmonic injection PWM (DI-PWM) is proposed to reduce the circulating current in EFDS without the addition of current sensors. The effectiveness is verified with simulation results.
