In this Invited Talk, we start by briefly discussing the logical role of interatomic forces within philosophical and scientific thought from antiquity to the development of modern quantum field theory. After reviewing the principles at the foundations of dispersion force physics, we analyze the unfolding transfer of such scientific understanding into breakthrough technologies with a particular focus on aerospace applications. Some notable examples of such a process are provided at various stages within the readiness matrix. The potential for intriguing experimental tests based on dispersion forces in curved spacetime is also explored with particular attention to fundamental metrology and novel detection methods. Conclusions are drawn on the potential for industrial market disruptions as well as scientific discoveries made possible by recent exciting developments.
