Atmospheric correction studies is increasingly important especially when involves of quantitative research in remote sensing science. In available atmospheric correction algorithm, lack of study has been addressed on the appropriate criteria to choose atmospheric model for specific atmospheric condition (i.e., in radiative transfer algorithm). The issue is not only on the availability of coincide atmospheric information required for the model but to choose which aerosol atmospheric model (i.e. urban, rural, maritime and desert) is appropriate for specific region. Thus, the study attempted to answer whether the selection of atmospheric model is based on certain criteria, which are regional atmospheric condition or geographic location. In order to determine the significance of both criteria, dark object extraction technique is performed in estimating the aerosol loading and visibility range. Results have demonstrated that determination of suitable atmospheric model significantly influenced by regional climate condition.
