Flux switching permanent magnet machine is a stator-permanent magnet machine, which the magnets equipped in stator core, rather than rotor core in conventional interior permanent magnet machine. It exhibits high torque density and easy heat management method. In addition, multi-tooth structure was proposed in flux switching permanent magnet machine to improve torque capability. This paper presents design and analysis of a new hybrid-excited multi-tooth FSPM brushless machine with flux adjustable capability and high torque density. Topology of proposed hybrid-excited multi-tooth FSPM brushless machine is introduced first. Selection of rotor segments and influence of key design parameters were analyzed. Finally, the electromagnetic performance, including open circuit flux linage, back-EMF, and torque capability were predicted by finite element analysis. Flux adjustable behavior and characteristics are verified as well.
