A new method for impulse noise removal is presented, where a robust estimator of the variance, MAD (median of the absolute deviations from the median), is used for impulse detection. By using this method, image details are well preserved, while impulse noise is suppressed. The algorithm is straightforward, low in complexity, achieves high filtering performance and requires no previous training.
