The miniature sensor technology integration (MSTI-3) infrared sensor has been collecting over the past year and a half, a unique set of Earth Backgrounds data, namely, large mosaic scenes (LMS), each typically 250 km in width and 500 km in length. These data are collected as individual, overlapping sub-images in an approximate step-stare pattern and cover several wavelength bands in both the short-wave (SWIR) and mid-wave (MWIR) infrared regions of the spectrum. All of the MSTI data (small and large scenes) are collected over a broad range of viewing geometry and lighting conditions in order to provide global statistics of infrared structure on both small and large spatial scales. Visidyne, Inc. has designed and implemented a set of algorithms to construct these LMSs from individual sub-images collected during the MSTI-3 LMS observations. These large mosaic scenes are deliverable, Level 3 data products, available to the users community for their analysis.
