The Jeju Provincial Government made a long-term plan to make Jeju Island a “carbon-free” region by 2030. One of the important plans is to increase the use of electric vehicles (EV) on the island. The charging infrastructure plays a role in penetrating EVs in the island. This study presents an overview of the recent status of the charging infrastructure in Jeju with its structures, charging types, and connectors. Consequently, it considers the future perspectives of charging infrastructure for expanding the electric vehicle market on the island. The recent revision plan for building an EV charging infrastructure is discussed. The study concludes that the charging infrastructure consists of 93% private and 3% public electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE). Otherwise, all EVs in Jeju have access to the slow charging type; 85% and 18% of EVs can be charged by fast and standard charging, respectively. The revision plan expects that 71,159 slow EVSE, 2,267 fast EVSE, and 2,087 Bus EVSE will be installed in Jeju by 2030. In addition, the plan for expanding EV charging infrastructure is being focused on public EVSE deployed for tourist attractions, apartments, and hotels to reduce the inconvenience to EV customers.
