Enhanced tunability and switching are exhibited in two-dimensional photonic crystal slabs through a superlattice addressing scheme that creates additional periodicity in the crystal lattice. According to the direction of incident light, the photonic crystal will act as a superprism, an optical switch, or an out-coupling device. Detailed results as well as results on other superlattice systems are presented.
