A preconditioned demultiplexing device is proposed. It based on modifying the behavior of beam during propagation inside the photonic crystal (PC) region. With proper design, the optical beams corresponding to different wavelength channels are spatially separated at their focal plane. Therefore, less area is occupied by each channel, and the total area of the device is considerably reduced. Also, the requirement for divergence angle of the incident beam is less restrictive compared to the conventional superprism-based PC demultiplexers.
